Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization(IASTM)
IASTM utilizes metal instruments in order to restore movement and reduce pain from soft tissue injury and dysfunction that may have developed from such things as surgery, repetitive stress injuries and immobilization. IASTM targets the underlying cause of many soft tissue injuries, while stimulating scar tissue resorption, regeneration of tendons, muscles and other soft tissues,as well as reducing or eliminating scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions.
IASTM increases skin temperature, improves the rate and amount of blood flow to the area being treated, increases cellular activity (fibroblasts and mast cells) involved in the natural healing process, as well as facilitating the conversion of collagen scar tissue to functional tissue.
Certification courses such as Graston and FAKTR (Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab) are utilized in order to facilitate correct treatment and use of IASTM.
